Close the Gap

Close the Gap, founded in 2003, is a Belgian nonprofit organization working to shorten the distance between developed and developing nations in terms of computer hardware and know-how. They do this by collecting used computers from large companies and making them usable in developing nations around the world. With the help of these computers, people in poorer countries can gain access to all the information available on the Internet and have the ability to communicate digitally. The computers are used chiefly for education. KLM is one company that donates computers to Close the Gap. However, computers alone are not enough. A great deal must be done to get all this equipment working and then move it to its final destination. That is where you come in.

Doctor 2 Doctor

Working under the name of "Doctor 2 Doctor - Flying Expertise Overseas" The VU Medical Center pediatric unit and KLM AirCares collaborate to create long-lasting improvements to medical care for children in Kenya. With KLM's help, pediatricians from the VUmc travel to Kenya, volunteering to help colleagues at the Moi Referral and Teaching Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya to help them broaden their medical skills. The VUmc also sends medical literature to the teaching hospital and invites Kenyan doctors to Amsterdam to amass knowledge and skill. And, since 2007, the program has been treating Kenyan children with difficult conditions at the VUmc in Amsterdam.
