Peter F. Hartman

Short biography

Peter F. HartmanPeter Frans Hartman was born in 1949 on the island of Curacao. After completing secondary school in 1967, he studied engineering at the Amsterdam Institute of Technology and Business Economics at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

After completing his studies, he joined KLM on October 29, 1973, as a labor analyst for the Controller's Department at Engineering & Maintenance. In the years that followed, he moved through a variety of controller's positions in the Netherlands and abroad.

In 1984, Mr. Hartman was appointed Chief of Technical Contract Services and, in 1987, he took on the position of Project Manager for Schiphol 2000. On January 1, 1989, he was appointed Chief of Station Services, where he was responsible for operations at Schiphol and all other stations in KLM's route network.

On October 1,1990, he advanced to the leadership of Customer Services and, on April 14, 1994, he took the helm at Personnel & Organization. On January 1, 1996, he was appointed head of Engineering & Maintenance.

On August 6, 1997, Mr. Hartman was appointed statutory managing director and Deputy CEO of KLM. He has been President & CEO since April 1, 2007.
