Number of employees
The KLM Group employs 33,000 people of more than 70 different nationalities. Around 28,000 of these work in the Netherlands and 5,000 abroad.

Technical maintenance
KLM Engineering & Maintenance (KLM E&M) and Air France Industries (AFI) jointly carry out maintenance, repairs, and modifications on aircraft, engines, and components for the AIR FRANCE KLM fleet and for more than 100 other airlines worldwide. The two organizations merged their sales divisions in April 2006 and are working evermore closely in other areas. KLM E&M in the largest aircraft maintenance company in the Netherlands, employing around 5,000 mainly technical staff.

Fleet and fleet renewal
The KLM fleet consists of 195 aircraft with an average age of 10.8 years. Owing to the new acquisitions KLM has succeeded in reducing the average age of its fleet (including that of transavia.com) by 1.2 years. This investment in products and services for our clients also significantly reduces the impact our operations have on the environment. The new aircraft make less noise and consume less fuel.

Financial interests
KLM has an interest in KLM UK/Cityhopper (100%), transavia.com (100%), Martinair
Holland (50%) and Kenya Airways (26%).

Revenues and results
The KLM Group booked revenues of EUR 8 billion in financial 2007-08. The income from operating activities was EUR 553 million, and profit was EUR 291 million.

AIR FRANCE KLM Group
Air France and KLM merged in 2004. The two companies continue to operate as separate airlines, each with their own identity and brand. They work closely together on existing core activities: Passenger, Cargo, and Engineering & Maintenance. Both companies benefit from each other’s strong points, e.g. customer loyalty, global networks, the Schiphol and Charles de Gaulle hubs, and the strength of the KLM and Air France brands. The head offices are located at Amstelveen and Paris.

Destinations
The AIR FRANCE KLM joint venture operates flights to 258 destinations in 15 countries on four continents. KLM flies to 148 destinations (127 KLM + 21 codeshare).

Cargo
Consolidation is the main theme in the world of freight. Air France Cargo and KLM Cargo activities have been fully integrated since 2007.

SkyTeam alliance
Both the modern traveler and freight shipper require as much flexibility and as many options as possible. Airline alliances make this feasible. AIR FRANCE KLM is a member of SkyTeam, which offers a network of 841 destinations in 162 countries. Hundreds of thousands of SkyTeam passengers transfer at Schiphol each week.
