Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo welcomes world's first E-freight shipments
First step to creating a paper free airfreight environment
Amstelveen – 2007-05-11
Today, Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo accommodates the first e-freight shipments on its worldwide network. This takes place between the participating e-freight pilot countries Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom. E-freight has become reality, after 10 months of preparation with IATA, customs, governmental authorities, handling agents, airlines and the participating forwarders in the Netherlands: DHL, Schenker, Panalpina and Road Air of the TMI Group.
Michael Wisbrun, EVP Air France Cargo-KLM Cargo, invited Mr. Aleksander Popovich, Global Head of Cargo from IATA and all participants in this pilot at Schiphol to celebrate this historic moment.
"E-freight is a major step forward in the airfreight industry. It improves transparency and consistency throughout the supply chain. Stimulating process innovation and implementing new technology is part of AF-KL Cargo's key priorities. As AF-KL Cargo we are very proud to be the leading airline participating in this worldwide development that enables paper free import, export and transit of airfreight", says Wisbrun.
Based on the experiences at Schiphol, we hope to introduce e-freight shipments on the Charles de Gaulle network at a later stage. The overall ambition for AF-KL Cargo is to reach 50% of e-freight shipments on the important trade lanes in five years time.
